the Black Mountains
Due to the loss of a key host who we've been unable to replace and problems with the routes in the north of the network following the Foot and Mouth crisis, we reluctantly decided to close the Black Mountains network in September 2003.

We haven't yet decided whether the closure will be permanent, but the challenging terrain means that there's probably not enough demand to offer place to place rides. We may re-open a one-centre holiday with petal rides at a later date, when we've had time to research some new routes!

Just so that you know what you're missing in the meantime, we decided not to delete all the ride details. Some of the riding is challenging and requires fit horses and riders. There are few gates but lots of hills, with some steep and stony tracks and one or two climbs of up to 1,000 feet. Mountain biking in best described as challenging, and is best left to the seriously fit!
